Tankborn by Karen Sandler
I really liked this science fiction book.  It was different than what I've been reading and the characters are still relate able and the story is interesting.

Favorite Book:

Betsy's Wedding by Maud Hart Lovelace
I loved the conclusion to this very sweet series.  It was fun to see Betsy grown up and finally with Joe.  I think it gave a good account of what it was like to be a newly married woman during World War I.  I liked that Besty and Tacy and Tib remained good friends despite growing up and getting married.  This was a lovely series.

Favorite Audio:

Mississippi Jack by L.A. Meyer, read by Katharine Kellgren
This was a fun addition to the Bloody Jack series and I suppose I really enjoyed it because it takes place in the early United States and down the Mississippi River, winding up in New Orleans.  Jacky can get into real trouble wherever she goes and it is a good thing for her that she makes lots of  good friends.

Favorite Book:

Red Glove by Holly Black
This was hands down my favorite book.  I really love this series and I thought that Red Glove was a strong sequel to White Cat.  Few authors succeed in writing a strong follow-up but Black is more than successful.   I highly recommend this series to everyone.

Audio book: Since I have listened to one book this month, I can't really pick a favorite.

Favorite Book:

Shine by Lauren Myracle
I really enjoyed this realistic fiction book about an introverted and damaged girl who investigates a hate crime perpetrated against her childhood best friend.  It was heart-wrecking and beautifully written book that I wholly recommend.

Audio books: Since I have only been listening to the Bloody Jack series, I can't really pick a favorite for the month.

April Book Picks

Favorite Book:

Bumped by Megan McCafferty
Even though I had a few issues with it, I can say it was the best book of the month.  I liked the concept of the dystopian society, how the cleverness of the writing, and how funny it was.

Favorite Audio:

Bloody Jack: Being an Account of the Curious Adventures of Mary Jacky Faber, Ship's Boy by L.A. Meyer, read by Katherine Kellgren

Hands down my favorite book of the month overall, I really enjoyed this book.  Katherine Kellgren does a great job and Jacky is one of the best characters I have read. 

March Book Picks

Favorite Book:

The Lover's Dictionary by David Levithan
This was an incredibly beautiful, soulful book that just spoke to me.  It's amazing how a simple concept, a story told in dictionary form, can be so evocative.  I think there is something for everyone, especially those who've been in love or in a long term relationship.

Favorite Audio: 

The Adoration of Jenna Fox by Mary E. Pearson, read by Jenna Lamia
I had a few minor problems with the narrator but, in the end, I began to enjoy the choice of reader.  In the end, the story was compelling enough to overcome any issues I had, including the fact that it was not as original as what I had hoped for.  In fact, I am eagerly awaiting the sequel.

February Picks

Favorite Book:

Bleeding Violet by Dia Reeves
It's a weird book.  It's a scary book.  But it's a stick with you book and I really liked it.  Dia Reeves is definitely one of my new favorite authors.

Favorite Audio:

Linger by Maggie Stiefvater
A lovely, lovely dreaming audio that sucks in the listener.  This is the most interesting series and I am surprised, but delighted that the author is veering off the path and into something surprising.  And the covers are so beautiful.

January Picks

 I used to do monthly wrap-ups but I've decided not to anymore.  So I thought something fun could be to share my favorite books and audios from the month.

Favorite book:

Slice of Cherry by Dia Reeves
Despite the fact that it was scary and disturbing, it was really well written, had a great plot that overcame my fear and sucked me right in and some truly memorable characters.  Reeves has some serious talent that cannot be ignored.  Also the cover is just amazing.

Favorite audio:

The Mysterious Howling (The Incorrigible Children of Ashton Place #1 by Maryrose Wood
This was an extremely fun book and I am so happy that I checked it out.  I actually enjoyed the narrator and think she did a wonderful job.  Her characterizations were spot-on.  The plot was fun and different and the main character was delightful and smart.
