Music Monday

I saw Music Monday on Lazy Girl Reads and thought that it would be fun to post something.

Last month I reviewed Slice of Cherry, a book I found both amazing and disturbing.  And in my head I found a song that perfectly expresses the nature of the sisters and the book, in a way.  It's from the Mean Girls soundtrack, "Operate" by Peaches.  The video is terrible, but the song is great.

Top Ten Favorite Book Quotes

Amanda from The Zen Leaf posted her Top 10 Favorite Book Quotes and I am a big fan of quotes in general. I collect quotes like other people collect stamps or coins.  This meme comes from Jillian at Random Ramblings so I thought I'd join in.

1.
"Freedom is an illusion. It always comes at a price."
— Jonathan Stroud (The Amulet of Samarkand)

2.
"It is a curious thing, the death of a loved one. We all know that our time in this world is limited, and that eventually all of us will end up underneath some sheet, never to wake up. And yet it is always a surprise when it happens to someone we know. It is like walking up the stairs to your bedroom in the dark, and thinking there is one more stair than there is. Your foot falls down, through the air, and there is a sickly moment of dark surprise as you try and readjust the way you thought of things."
— Lemony Snicket (Horseradish: Bitter Truths You Can't Avoid)

3.
"One day Alice came to a fork in the road and saw a Cheshire cat in a tree. Which road do I take?" she asked. "Where do you want to go?" was his response. "I don't know," Alice answered. "Then," said the cat, "it doesn't matter."
— Lewis Carroll (Alice's Adventures in Wonderland)

4.
"Always throw spilled salt over your left shoulder. Keep rosemary by your garden gate. Add pepper to your mashed potatoes. Plant roses and lavender, for luck. Fall in love whenever you can."
— Alice Hoffman (Practical Magic)

5.
"Touchstone watched, suddenly conscious that he probably only had five seconds left to be alone with Sabriel, to say something, to say anything. Perhaps the last five seconds they ever would have alone together.
I am not afraid, he said to himself.
'I love you," he whispered. "I hope you don't mind.'"
— Garth Nix (Sabriel)

6.
"To get something you must give something away.
To hold something you must give something away.
To love something you must give something away."
— David Levithan (The Realm of Possibility)

7.
"In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move."
— Douglas Adams (The Restaurant at the End of the Universe)

8.
"Everyone, at some point in their lives, wakes up in the middle of the night with the feeling that they are all alone in the world, and that nobody loves them now and that nobody will ever love them, and that they will never have a decent night's sleep again and will spend their lives wandering blearily around a loveless landscape, hoping desperately that their circumstances will improve, but suspecting, in their heart of hearts, that they will remain unloved forever. The best thing to do in these circumstances is to wake somebody else up, so that they can feel this way, too."
— Lemony Snicket (Horseradish: Bitter Truths You Can't Avoid)

9.
"Love is the ultimate outlaw. It just won't adhere to any rules. The most any of us can do is to sign on as its accomplice. Instead of vowing to honor and obey, maybe we should swear to aid and abet. That would mean that security is out of the question. The words "make" and "stay" become inappropriate. My love for you has no strings attached. I love you for free."
— Tom Robbins (Still Life with Woodpecker)

And last, I love this quote.  It is the most perfect quote about Louisiana weather I have ever seen.

10.
"Louisiana in September was like an obscene phone call from nature. The air - moist, sultry, secretive, and far from fresh - felt as if it were being exhaled into one's face. Sometimes it even sounded like heavy breathing."
— Tom Robbins (Jitterbug Perfume)

Loved it after all

The Book List is a short and fun meme that allows you to share books with the blogosphere and make a list. Who doesn't love lists? It is hosted weekly by Rebecca at Lost in Books.
I saw this at the adventures of cecelia bedelia and I love the topic.

1. Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card
It's not so much that I thought I'd hate it, I just wasn't personally interested in it.  But it is my husband's favorite book and when we started dating, I figured I should read it since he doesn't read a lot of fiction.  And if he was that interested in this book, I should give it a try.  And I loved it.  I think it is one of the most brilliant book ever written.

2. The Forest of Hands and Teeth by Carrie Ryan
Zombies?  Not my thing.  But it got such good reviews I reluctantly read it and was surprised by how much I liked it.  It was compelling and spooky.  The main character is still a little touch and go for me, but the book itself is one of the best zombie/YA books I've read.

3.  Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater
Another werewolf book, I thought.  But I needed something to listen to in the car.  So I picked up Shiver.  Wow.  This is one of the sweetest and most beautiful books.  I don't know if it was the narrators that conveyed the love and devotion the main characters felt, but every day I couldn't wait to get in the car to hear what happened next.

What Fairy Tale Character Are You?

What Fairy Tale Character Are You?

You are The Gingerbread Man. You are so animated that it sometimes is exhausting just to keep up with you! You are always running around from one place to the next and you usually have about three thousand projects on the go at one time. You love to gab with anyone who will listen and you are always the person to ask when you want to catch up on the gossip. Sometimes you can be a bit of a tease, and you love to fool around and have fun. In fact, if something isn't making you happy you stop doing it!

Hmmm...I don't know about all that. I'm pretty laid back although I do usually have a lot going on.

ETA: I decided to see what Disney character I am.

You are... ALICE (Alice in Wonderland)! You are very curious and unpredictable. You tend to act before you think, and so tend to get into unpleasant predicaments.

Patently untrue, but funny because WAY back in college my friends and I assigned everyone roles from Alice in Wonderland and I was Alice.

Check out these quizzes here to see what fairy tale character you are.

BBAW nomination!

So The Little Bookworm's been nominated for Best YA Blog which is so awesome and cool and nice and other adjectives. I appreciate it so much. It makes me feel all nice inside.
Here's the meme for those who didn't participate last year. This is going to be fun!

1) What has been one of the highlights of blogging for you?

I'd say people actually reading what I write and commenting on it and hopefully going out and reading some of the books I have recommended. Part of my mission in life as a librarian is to expose others to great books and get them reading.

2) What blogger has helped you out with your blog by answering questions, linking to you, or inspiring you?

Amanda at The Zen Leaf has been great, commenting on all my posts and has been so super nice.

and J. Kaye at J.Kaye's Book Blog had the first challenge I joined and the first meme I started posting (What Are You Reading Mondays?) so I think she is a thumbs up.

3) What one question do you have about BBAW that someone who participated last year could answer?

I don't really know. I mean, I guess what was it like last year? I'm really lame at stuff like this.
