Hush, Hush

Jacket:
For Nora Grey, romance was not part of the plan. She's never been particularly attracted to the boys at her school, no matter how much her best friend, Vee, pushes them at her...until Patch comes along.
With his easy smile and eyes that seem to see inside her, Nora is drawn to him against her better judgment, but after a series of terrifying encounters, Nora's not sure whom to trust. Patch seems to be everywhere she is, and to know more about her than her closest friends. She can't decide whether she should fall into his arms or run and hide. And when she tries to seek some answers, she finds herself near a truth that is far more unsettling than anything Patch makes her feel.
For Nora is right in the middle of an ancient battle between the immortal and those that have fallen - and when it comes to choosing sides, the wrong choice will cost her life.

He sat slouched one table back, cool black eyes holding a steady gaze forward.  Just like always.  I didn't for one moment believe he just sat there, day after day, staring into space.  He was thinking something, but instinct told me I probably didn't want to know what. p.11
I'm pretty sure that Twilight has ruined biology class for YA writers forever.  Because when the goody-goody main character meets the bad boy in bio class, I have do a little eye roll.  But the nice thing for all of us is that Patch feels none of Edward's compulsion to push Nora away instead it's Nora who want to run away though she feels a pull toward Patch that is unexplainable.  I don't know.  I feel like this is being done a lot right now in YA fantasy.  Nevertheless, I enjoyed Hush, Hush and read it in one day, a sick day, but one day still.  I love fallen angel stories.  I loved Eternal.  I liked Hush, Hush.  It ran close to being cliched, but never fully went there. It has some genuinely freaky moments and the characters were okay.  I've noticed that some people seem to love Patch, but I didn't.  I was a little sorry that he is going to stick around in fact, though his new role might make him better.  He annoyed me and Nora had no reason to like him.  The mystery part was really good and I even liked that Fitzpatrick threw in a couple of "sleuthing" for the Nancy Drew fans out there.  It took too long to get to the good part though.  A lot of the beginning felt like filler and I really just wanted to get to Patch's secret faster and there wasn't enough time spent on it, I think.

  1. I actually loved Bio class - even took AP bio - and, now that I think about it...I ended up dating my bio partner!! ha ha - never saw that connection before.

Excellent review - I think you really captured both the pluses and minuses of Hush, Hush. I am not generally a fan of the supernatural romance genre (confession: I haven't read the Twilight books!), but I enjoyed the audio of Hush, Hush more than I expected to.

  3. Great review! I found Hush, Hush to be an entertaining read myself :) I did like Patch though. I didn't like the best friend, not much of a good friend in my opinion.

I didn't enjoy science in school, it was most definitely not my kind of subject(one of my fav subjects were history).

  4. Brooke - I haven't read Fallen so I'm not sure.

Ladybug - I didn't like the best friend either. She bugged me.
